‘Now, we’re the hunted’

WHAT a difference a title triumph made.

Coach Topex Robinson of defending champion La Salle gamely admitted there’s a big bullseye on the Green Archers’ backs in the 87th UAAP basketball tournament set to start in September.

But that’s just fine, according to Robinson, convinced his charges still have what it takes.

“It’s gonna be challenging. Now, we’re being hunted and it’s a different environment for us,” Robinson said. “But again, we’re excited for what the season lies for us. It’s gonna be something that we really wanted to be in.

“But it’s gonna be challenging but sa amin, I guess we’re excited for the 87th season,” he added.

Robinson’s optimism is well-founded, with reigning MVP Kevin Quiambao expected to suit up for his final playing year for the green-and-white of Taft.

“Kevin is gonna be a blessing to us. I guess for him to follow up what he started and keep our culture alive,” Robinson said of his do-it-all ward. “So, he’s really gonna be somebody that I’m sure the other guys that we have, new in this team, will benefit from.”

To toughen up for its title defense, La Salle saw action in several pre-season tilts where the Archers ruled the Pinoyliga Collegiate Cup.

La Salle wound up as bridesmaid in the Filoil EcoOil 17th ECJ Pre-season Cup, losing to University of the Philippines 66-69 last week.

Robinson said there is a lot of room for improvement for his squad that is filled with newcomers.
