Pope names Pinoy priest to Vatican’s Catholic education body

ANOTHER Filipino priest is headed to the Vatican.

Pope Francis has appointed Fr. Jose Quilongquilong as consultor or adviser of the Vatican’s Congregation for Catholic Education (CCE).

“The Pope made the appointment last March 14 but it was only announced today by the Loyola School of Theology (LST), where the priest served as its former president,” the report of the CBCP News, the official news agency of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), said.

Quilongquilong is a known theologian with a licentiate and doctorate in spirituality from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

While completing his studies, he also worked as regional secretary for Asia-Pacific at the Jesuit General Curia in Rome.

Quilongquilong is currently serving as the administrator of the Mirador Jesuit Villa Retreat House and Eco-Spirituality Park in Baguio City.

He is set to serve for a term of five years.

The CCE, one of the nine congregations of the Roman Curia, is the dicastery that oversees Catholic schools, universities, and institutes of higher education around the world.

The current officials of the dicastery are Cardinal Giuseppe Versaldi, prefect; Msgr. Angelo Vincenzo Zani, secretary; and Fr. Friedrich Bechina, undersecretary.

Filipino Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, the pro-prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, is also a member of the CCE.
