Faithful asked to help sainthood bid for teen

THE Diocese of Laoag is calling on the Filipino faithful to help in the sainthood bid of the 13-year-old Niña Ruiz-Abad by providing information on her actions and virtues during her brief life.

In a circular letter, Laoag Bishop Renato Mayugba said information about Abad, whether personal or private, and a photocopied authenticated document or letter, may be sent directly to the Diocese of Laoag.

The information to be submitted must be addressed to Laoag Diocese Chancellor Fr Rey Magus Respicio at the Bishop’s Residence located in P. Gomez St., Barangay 23 San Matias, Laoag City, 2900 Ilocos Norte.

To recall, the “God First Association” asked the Diocese of Laoag to launch of the sainthood bid for Abad. In response, Mayugba approved the candidacy for sainthood of Abad, who was born on Oct. 31, 1980 and died on August 16, 1993.

Just last month, the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) agreed to support Abad’s cause for sainthood.

According to CBCP News, documentation from the diocesan inquiry will be sent to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, which will review the submitted information.
