DMW opens helpline for displaced Saudi OFWs

THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) yesterday announced the creation of a helpline specifically for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) displaced in Saudi Arabia in 2015 and 2016.

The DMW said it has opened an email address and designated a mobile number for the inquiries of the Saudi OFWs and their families who continue to wait for the payment of their back wages.

It said inquiries regarding their claims may be sent through email at saudiclaims@dmw.gov.ph. or through call/SMS/Viber/WhatsApp at +63920-517-1059.

Thousands of OFWs were displaced and left unpaid in 2015 and 2016 after several Saudi construction firms declared bankruptcy.

In November last year, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman committed to shoulder the unpaid salaries.

President Marcos Jr., in his State of the Nation Address in July, said the unpaid salaries and benefits of some 14,000 displaced Saudi OFWs were being processed.

A bilateral coordinating body has since been created to handle matters related to the unpaid wages of displaced OFWs. — Gerard Naval
