THE Bureau of Immigration yesterday said its officers have prevented the entry of two undesirable foreigners at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
Bi Commissioner Norman Tansingco identified the two as Michael David Steinborn, 57, an American; and Amol Awasthi, 48, a Turkish, who were arrested on separate occasions at the NAIA Terminal 3.
Tansingco said Steinborn was arrested last November 26 upon arriving on board a United Airlines flight from San Francisco, while Awasthi was intercepted the following day as he arrived via an Emirates flight from the United Arab Emirates.
Tansingco said Steinborn is a registered sex offender who was excluded based on a provision in the law that bars the entry of aliens who were convicted of crimes involving moral turpitude.
Steinborn was reportedly convicted in Kissimmee, Florida in 1994 for indecent exposure and is considered as a Tier 1 offender.
Awasthi is the subject of an Interpol blue notice issued last year in connection with a criminal investigation for alleged involvement in transactions that defrauded the Indian government.
