A US$80.70 billion investment package will be needed by the Philippines between now and 2028 to meet its reliable and resilient energy supply under a clean and sustainable energy platform, according to the Department of Energy (DOE) projection.
This investment preview will highlight the Powertrends 2024 conference on October 3-4, which shall tackle parallel discussions on legislations that will allow more energy investments into the industry such as facilitating reforms in the implementation of the Electric Power Industry Reform Act of 2001 (EPIRA Law) passage of a Natural Gas Bill and prioritization of Waste to Energy legislations.
Leverage International Consultants managing director Cecilia Sanchez and chief organizer of the forum expect discussions to center as to how to speed up investments in the power industry sector.
The two day senior level conference will be held at the New World Hotel, Makati City and is part of the leverage commitment to be the industry forum on energy concerns which the firm started in 1995.
“We expect discussions on a number of strategic concerns such as moratorium on coal fired power plants, decommissioning of inefficient ones, push for hydrogen power plants, target at least 4,500 MW nuclear power capacity by 2050, increase renewable energy share in the power mix up to 35 per cent by 2030; LNG as transition fuel, review taxation on energy, push for low carbon emission transport system, operationalize a smart and Green Grid Plan, push for offshore wind development, among others,” Sanchez said.
Discussions will also cover heightened biofuels production by maximizing the role of the coconut industry as fuel, increased investments in oil and gas exploration and development, among others, she added.
Sanchez added that access to concessional financing for energy transition, and repositioning of existing coal-fired power plants in light of climate change pressures will be discussed.
