SB Equities Inc. said late appetite for local shares helped the market rise for the first time in three sessions despite continued cautiousness over the prospects of the easing of quarantine restrictions and escalating China-US tensions.

SB Equities said the lack of immediate catalysts and continued foreign outflow even had the PSEi  fall as much as 1.3 percent as investors also awaited the government’s decision on lockdown plans after May 31.
Luis Limlingan, managing director at Regina Capital and Development Corp. said the market rallied on new vaccine news, and optimism over positive signs of global economic recovery.

“Cases top 5.5 million and deaths over 348,000. New York City has hired 1,700 contact tracers who will be working by June 1, and Governor Andrew Cuomo said he would now focus on reopening the most populous US city, the only region still under state-ordered lockdown. Wuhan said it tested almost 7 million people in 12 days, after several infections prompted worries about a second wave. There are 10 vaccines in clinical evaluation and 114 in preclinical evaluation, according to a running tally by Fundstrat,” said Limlingan.
