LRT1 Cavite extension operational by Q3 2024

The 11.7-kilometer Light Rail Transit line 1 (LRT-1) Cavite Extension project is on track to be operational by the third quarter of 2024, according to Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista.

During his inspection of the rail line’s Dr. Santos and Ninoy Aquino stations on Monday, Bautista said the Department of Transportation (DOTr) made arrangements with Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC) and its contractor to ensure the rail line will be operational as scheduled.

Phase 1 of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension registered a 75.3 percent overall progress rate as of October. Civil works on the project started in September 2019, while the viaduct was completed last February.

At present, Dr. Santos, Ninoy Aquino and Redemptorist stations in Parañaque City have recorded  progress rates  48 percent, 34 percent and 30 percent, respectively.

Progress rates at Asia World and MIA stations in Pasay City are at 37.1 percent and 35.57 percent, respectively.

The eight-station LRT-1 Cavite Extension project will connect Baclaran in Parañaque City to Bacoor, Cavite.

The project is a joint venture of the DOTr, Light Rail Transit Authority  and LRMC.

Once fully operational, the LRT-1 Cavite Extension is expected to cut travel time between Baclaran and Bacoor to 25 minutes from the present one hour and 10 minutes, while increasing the rail line’s capacity from 500,000 to 800,000 passengers daily.
