MVP Group partners with RPN9

MediaQuest Holdings and TV5, the broadcast arm of the Pangilinan Group of Companies, has formalized its partnership with RPTV owner Nine Media Corp. of the Cabangon Group.

A content distribution, sales and marketing services agreement has been inked at the TV5 Media Center in Mandaluyong between Jane Basas, MediaQuest president and chief executive officer (CEO); Guido Zaballero, TV5 CEO; and Benjamin Ramos, Nine Media president.

“The deal arose from the previous agreement that saw TV5’s PBA and EAT Bulaga! airing on Channel 9 on weekends beginning January,” said Basas.

“Both parties saw a good opportunity for a more robust collaboration for a unique channel that puts together some of the most sought-after sports and entertainment content that the MediaQuest group has to offer,” Basas added.

“This agreement brings together TV5 and MediaQuest’s vast library of programs and Nine Media’s broadcast network access and nationwide reach. Our collaboration with Nine Media allows us to reach more Filipinos and deliver our commitment to provide the entertainment, sports, news, and public service content that they love,” Zaballero said.

RPTV launched last February 1. It is available on Channel 9 (analog), Channel 19 and Channel 18.3 (digital terrestrial television), and over 300 cable and satellite providers nationwide. It is also streaming live via the Cignal Play app.

T he agreement follows the ceasing of operation of Nine Media’s CNN Philippines franchise by the end of January, citing financial losses.

CNN Philippines started its broadcast in March 2015 initially through a five-year brand and content deal between Nine Media and CNN International. The contract was renewed for another five years.

According to a report, CNN Philippines’ losses have ballooned to P5 billion.
