Days before school opening on August 22, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is yet to publish the price guide on school supplies.
DTI Undersecretary Ruth Castelo said the agency is resuming the release of the price guide on school supplies this year, two years after the pandemic struck in 2020 that prompted blended learning.
Castelo said the Balik Eskwela price is different from the Suggested Retail Price Bulletin on basic and prime commodities.
“Balik Eskwela price guide is just a guide for consumers to know the cost and where to buy,” Castelo said.
Like Noche Buena products, school supplies are seasonal. The price guide is usually released way ahead of school opening to give consumers a head start in shopping.
According to Castelo, prices of each item of school supplies vary due to quality, make and volume, giving shoppers a wide range of choices.
The new price guide is awaiting approval of DTI Secretary Alfredo Pascual. – Irma Isip
