The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) is optimistic the land dispute in Cebu with the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) will soon be resolved with the Department of Tourism’s (DOT) reaffirmation of support for national infrastructure projects.
“We thank Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco, for her instruction to resolve the issue with TIEZA in the best and most expeditious way possible, and for having the public welfare in mind,” said Cynthia Alabanza, NCGP assistant vice president, in a message yesterday.
The DOT said in a statement last Friday TIEZA has been instructed to immediately coordinate with the NGCP “so the best interest of the public may be served.”
TIEZA is an attached agency of the DOT.
A temporary restraining order (TRO) was issued on September against the construction of its Cebu-Magdugo 230 kilovolt (kV) line in response to the petition filed by the TIEZA. Two tower sites of the transmission project fall under the latter’s property.
DOT in the statement said TIEZA’s Kang-Irag property in Cebu is not just limited to the development of a golf course but has been considered for other types of tourism development such as nature-based, leisure and agriculture and farm tourism that can provide livelihood and employment.
