The Philippines encouraged the semiconductor industry of the Netherlands to invest in the country and tap into the vast number of engineers and workforce who have a nearly competitive integrated circuit (IC) design engineers and experience in FinFET, a special technology in the sector.
FinFET technology is a type of field-effect transistor (FET) that has a thin vertical fin instead of being completely planar. Its application include home computers, laptops, tablets, smartphones, wearables, high-end networks, and automotive among others.
At a roundtable on June 30, Dutch companies that included Holland Semiconductor and High Tech NL, said they look forward to a trade mission to the Philippines in October led by Business Connect and the Dutch Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines.
“The Netherlands and the Philippines share mutual interests in the semiconductor and high-tech sectors as we both recognize the importance of these industries in driving innovation, job creation, and ultimately, economic growth. The Philippines is enhancing its participation in the global value chain of electronics, specifically in research and development and production of wafer technology,” Pascual said.
He also highlighted the Philippines offers businesses a one-of-a-kind opportunity to reduce costs while maximizing value-add to effectively service worldwide clients.
Pascual said the Philippines also offers tax and other incentives and that several semiconductor and electronics manufacturing services companies have received government backing to help craft their digital transformation roadmaps.
The semiconductor and high-tech sectors remain a top priority for the Philippines.
