THE PVL may welcome a new team — its 10th — this year.
This was bared yesterday by PVL President Ricky Palou, who added they are still evaluating the new applicant.
“We are still in the process of evaluating the applicant,” Palou, who did not disclose details about the team, told Malaya-Business Insight.
If and when the squad gets the nod, it will join the nine active teams that include reigning Open and Invitational Conferences champion Creamline and back-to-back Reinforced Conference titlist Petro Gazz.
The Cignal HD Spikers, PLDT High Speed Hitters, Chery Tiggo Crossovers, Choco Mucho Flying Titans, F2 Logistics Cargo Movers, UAI-Army Lady Troopers and Akari Chargers complete the PVL roster.
Akari was the latest club that joined the country’s pro volleyball league last July. The Chargers are bannered by Michelle Cobb, Jho Maraguinot, Trisha Genesis, and Krich Macaslang.
The league plans to start its 2023 season with the Open Conference on Feb. 4.
Creamline will look to do an encore and annex a second straight crown.
The Cool Smashers beat the Angels in the finals last March.
Creamline opposite hitter Diana Mae Carlos was hailed as the Open Conference MVP, while teammate and open spiker Alyssa Valdez bagged the finals MVP plum.
