Iligan snaps 4-game losing skid

PAGADIAN. – Iligan arrested its four-game funk at the expense of the skidding Basilan BRT 72-65 in the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup Mindanao Challenge Tuesday at the Pagadian City Gymnasium here.

Jack Hoyohoy and Lester Tamayo put the finishing touches on the Archangels second win in seven games after the Peace Raiders had closed in at 60-61 at the 8:10 mark of the final period. Basilan slipped to 3-4.

“These past few days my players were really down but we motivated them” said Archangels coach Kiko Flores. “I give all the credit to these young kids.”

Hoyohoy led Iligan with a monster double-double of 24 points and 13 rebounds. Nikko Panganiban was the lone bright spot for the Peace Riders with 18 points, all from deep, to go with seven rebounds.

In the other game, Roxas unleashed a monumental fightback and stunned Globalport-MisOr 90-87.

The Vanguards, who won their third straight game, improved to 4-2 and a tie for th lead with Zamboanga Sibugay and Kapatagan.

A jumper by Andoy Estrella to start the payoff period gave the Valientes their biggest lead of the game at 23 with 9:27 remaining 78-55. But the Vanguards went on a 27-6 blast, capped by James Martinez’s fastbreak layup, to close the gap to just two 82-84 and eventually prevailed.

Globalport slipped to 3-3.
