What party line to toe?

THE PDP-Laban, which ironically is known here and abroad as the party in power just because it is the political party of the sitting President, is really an emasculated, fractious group with a confused membership.

It was said that it is a party whose top leaders can fit into a Volkswagen Beetle, it is now a party rent in two and can fit in an airplane with two wings, but many doubt it could fly.

Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, president of a faction of the PDP-Laban, has demanded loyalty from its members, directing them to “toe the party line and remain steadfast” even as the members found themselves without presidential and VP bets to support. They have a standard without a bearer.

‘Cusi must be dreaming, or he just thought the party members were dumb… What “victory” is he
talking about when they do not have key national candidates
in the morning of the deadline?’

How did this happen? It’s because Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa withdrew from the presidential race. He said he joined the race because of a party decision, and he withdrew also because of party dictation.

Then Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go revised his certificate of candidacy, withdrawing from the VP race and entering the presidential derby thru substitution. Go ditched the so-called ruling party and joined the Pederalisimo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan (PDDS) to be able to substitute for Grepor Belgica, former presidential adviser for religious affairs under the Duterte government.

Cusi must be dreaming, or he just thought the party members were dumb. Imagine exhorting them this way: “We assure you that nothing has changed, our objective remains the same — victory in the coming national and local elections. We urge you to toe the party line and remain steadfast.”

What “victory” is he talking about when they do not have key national candidates in the morning of the deadline?

What a condescending directive addressed to his mass membership his statement is. It is plain as day that the Cusi-led PDP-Laban faction found itself in this sorry rut because of President Duterte’s cryptic, dilly-dallying political tactics.

But what can you expect from a father who, by his own admission, does not talk to his daughter, but has time for chit-chat with Banat By?
