Toll passes 26K; 5,204 new cases

THE death toll from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the country breached the grim milestone of 26,000 yesterday as 100 more patients succumbed to the deadly virus while 5,204 new cases were reported by the Department of Health.

In its latest bulletin, the DOH said the deadly virus has claimed the lives of 26,015 Filipinos for a case fatality rate of 1.76 while the number of infections in the country rose to 1,478,061.

The new cases do not include figures from eight laboratories that failed to submit data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS) last July 10.

Active cases dipped slightly to 49,128 from 49,701 last Sunday, with 89.7 percent mild cases, 4.7 percent asymptomatic cases, 2.5 percent severe cases, 1.7 percent moderate cases, and 1.5 percent critical cases.

The DOH reported 5,811 more recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 1,402,918.

This means that 94.9 percent of COVID patients have recovered.

Ten move overseas Filipinos have tested positive for the deadly virus, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs, raising the total to 20,943, with 11,864 recorded in the Middle East and African regions, 4,535 in Asia and the Pacific, 3,554 in Europe, and 990 in the Americas.

The DFA recorded no new recovery or death. As of July 11, the DFA said 1,245 Filipinos abroad have lost their lives due to the virus, with the Middle East and African regions having the largest number of fatalities so far with 836, followed by 245 in the Americas, 130 in Europe, and 34 in the Asia Pacific region.
