FROM 9,493 last Tuesday, new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases dropped to 7,661 yesterday, fueling hopes infections in the country are indeed on a downward curve.
In its latest bulletin, the Department of Health said the total number of infections rose to 3,577,298 while the death toll climbed to54,097, counting the 43 more who lost their battle against the deadly virus, for a case fatality rate of 1.51 percent.
The current positivity rate in the Philippines stood at 24.8 percent among the 40,453 tested samples on January 31.
Active cases dropped to 160,297 from 176,053 last Tuesday, with over 149,000 mild cases and more than 5,500 asymptomatic cases.
The health department also reported 23,392 additional recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 3,362,904.
