New cases climb back to over 8K

NEW coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases reported by the Department of Health slightly went up yesterday to over 8,000 while 71 more lost their struggle against the dreaded virus.

In its latest bulletin, the DOH said total infections in the country climbed to 3,585,461, counting the 8,702 new cases, while the death toll rose to 8,702 for a case fatality rate of 1.51 percent.

The current positivity rate in the Philippines stood at 25.5 percent among the 42,446 tested samples on February 1.

While new cases rose, active cases dropped to 153,335 from 160,297 last Wednesday, with over 143,000 mild cases and more than 4,900 asymptomatic cases.

The health department also reported 15,290 additional recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 3,377,958.
