THE Commission on Elections will come out with guidelines to help the public identify legitimate survey firms amid the mushrooming of fly-by-night ones which mislead the people, especially during election season, the poll body’s spokesman James Jimenez said yesterday.
He said it is important that people know how legitimate surveys are conducted, what questions were asked of the respondents, and who commissioned them, among others.
Jimenez said due to the lack of vital information about surveys, people tend to believe any survey, even those done by unknown firms, especially those posted on social media sites.
He said these are giving out wrong information which favor candidates who cough up huge amounts of money to get into the list of top candidates.
‘Kasi kung minsan maglalabas ng survey tapos hindi mo alam kung ano klase yung tanong, so, para maluto yung resulta, ika nga (There are times that surveys are made public without the people even knowing what the questions asked were, which are done mainly to favor a candidate),” he said.
Jimenez said surveys, especially during election season, cannot be banned as the Supreme Court has ruled in its favor.
