QUEZON City Mayor Joy Belmonte yesterday assured the family of former journalist Gwenn Salamida, who was shot to death in the spa that she owns last Tuesday, that justice will be served.
“Ms. Salamida was a beloved member of the media, an honest business owner, and an upstanding Quezon (City) citizen. We fervently condemn her brutal murder,” Belmonte said in a statement.
She said the city government will help authorities in the investigation to give justice to the victim and her family.
The Quezon City Police Department said Salamida was shot and killed at about 3:30 p.m. inside the Gott Beauty Salon and Spa at the corner of Kaingin Road and Edsa, Quezon City.
Oliver Perona, who was helping Salamida, a former tabloid editor, clean the salon at the time of the attack, was also hurt and is being treated at the Quezon City General Hospital.
“On behalf of the Quezon City government and the QCPD, we would like to assure the victims’ respective families that we will be applying the full power of the law to hunt down the perpetrator of this heinous crime, so that justice will be swift and immediate,” Belmonte said. — Noel Talacay
