NEW coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases spiked to 14,895 yesterday from 11,085 last Wednesday, the second highest single-day number of infections in the country since last April, while 248 more succumbed to the deadly virus, according to the Department of Health.
In its latest bulletin, the DOH said the latest cases do not include data from two laboratories, adding the total number of infections now stand at 1,791,003 and the toll at 30,881 for a case fatality rate of 1.72.
The country’s highest single-day number of infections was 15,310 last April 2.
Active cases also rose to 111,720 from 105,151 last Wednesday, with 95.3 percent mild cases, 1.8 percent asymptomatic cases, 1.3 percent severe cases, 0.8 percent moderate cases, and 0.7 percent critical cases.
The DOH also reported 8,248 more recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 1,648,402.
Manila Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna was discharged yesterday from the Sta. Ana Hospital, nearly two weeks after she tested positive for the deadly virus.
“Today, we celebrate as our Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna is discharged from the Sta. Ana
Hospital. We all wish you good health Vice,” a medical bulletin issued by the hospital said.
In the same bulletin, the hospital said Mayor Isko Moreno continues to show signs of improvement on his fourth hospital day since he also tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
“He is feeling much better from yesterday’s complaints of body pains.
He gets up from his bed and can move around his room. He has minimal coughing, and not febrile,” it said.
“All throughout the day, his vital signs remained stable. He has good compliance in taking his prescribed medications. He is eating well and sleeping well,’ it added.
Moreno tested positive for COVID-19 last Sunday and was immediately brought to Sta. Ana Hospital.
The city health department reported 284 new COVID-19 cases, driving the number of active cases to 1,752.
There were also 10 new fatalities, bringing the total number of deaths in the city to 1,369. — With Ashzel Hachero
