On the public service program “CIA with BA,” Senators Alan Peter and Pia Cayetano, along with host Boy Abunda, expressed their gratitude to the individuals who bravely shared their experiences. During their episode last July 9, Boy Abunda personally addressed these individuals.
“Ako, I always learn a great deal from our episodes, and I want to thank you sincerely for sharing your stories and wisdom,” he acknowledged.
Pia, being a lawyer herself, also shared her thoughts. “Actually kahit naman kami bilang abogado, natututo pa rin kami – napapa-review pa rin kami,” she remarked.
From the day’s discussions, the lesson Pia took away was the importance of being prepared and cautious. “The lesson I’ve learned from today actually is, lagi nga nating sinasabi, ‘be prepared,’ ‘di ba? ‘Yung pag-iingat. Laging nasa huli ang pagsisisi kaya we want to prepare you,” she added.
This statement came after the program addressed the concerns of individuals who fell victim to a scam known as “sanla-tira,” where a lender gains the right to use a borrower’s house for a certain period but ends up scamming them.
“Binubulungan ko na si Alan… paano ba kami makakatulong na ma-prepare kayo? Anong klaseng life lesson, financial and legal lessons that we can [share]… siguro madami pa tayong gagawin to prepare people sa mga kontratang papasukin niyo, sa relationships…” Pia continued.
Alan, on his part, shared what he had learned from the episode. “Ako naman natutunan ko na ‘it’s really good to learn from experience’ pero it’s better to learn from someone else’s experience, lalo kung bad experience siya. [Like] kung may barkada ka na naloko sa utang… and then hindi ka pa natuto do’n, sa ‘yo pa nangyari, do’n ka pa natuto.. napakasakit.
“That’s why sobra tayong nagpapasalamat sa mga nag-a-appear sa show. It’s not easy to come forward and tell people: ‘Alam mo, naloko kami!’ Especially tayong mga Pilipino, mayabang din tayo do’n – ‘kami hindi basta maloloko,’ pero ang dami po talagang scam ngayon so I hope, we really thirst for knowledge and we really look at the experiences of others. Sabi nga, uulit-ulitin ko, ‘prevention is better than cure,’” he ended.
“CIA with BA” carries on the legacy of the late Senator Rene Cayetano, the father of Senators Alan and Pia. Senator Cayetano was a distinguished lawyer who gained recognition through his radio and TV program, “Compañero y Compañera,” which aired from 1997 to 2001.
Hosted by Alan, Pia, and Boy, “CIA with BA” airs every Sunday at 11:30 p.m. on GMA7.
