Study cites P5T potential of digital transformation

Digital transformation could create up to P5 trillion in annual economic value by 2030, according to Google’s Economic Impact Report.

Secretary Ramon Lopez of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said this is a significant for the country as it harnesses its digital capability towards economic growth.

Lopez cited the report’s findings which said of the P5 trillion, P3.5 trillion could come from technologies that help businesses mitigate the economic impacts of the pandemic and future similar events.

“To fully unlock this potential, we need to overcome certain barriers such as the challenges surrounding our digital adoption and digital infrastructure,” Lopez said at the launch of the report held virtually yesterday.

Google Philippines has been one of the private sector partners of the DTI dedicated to improving micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME)’s access to technology and innovation, through skills workshops, knowledge- sharing sessions, and training activities.

Google and DTI have trained over 46,000 small business owners and employees since the onset of the pandemic. In 2020, they trained more than 26,000 MSME stakeholders and another 20,000 so far this year.
