The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has set this year’s installed generating capacity (IGC) and market share limitation (MSL) for the national and regional grids.
In a statement, the ERC said for Luzon, the IGC is at 17,961,724 kilowatts (kw) but the MSL is 30 percent or 5,388,517 kw; Visayas with IGC of 3,417,708 kw and MSL of 30 percent or 1,025,312 kw; and Mindanao with IGC of 4,187,838 kw and MSL of 30 percent or 1,256,351 kw.
On a national level, the ERC set the IGC at 25,567,270 kw and MSL of 25 percent or 6,391,818 kw.
The regulatory body sets the said figures annually based on the maximum capacity of generation facilities.
Under the Electric Power Industry Reform Act of 2001, no company or related group can own, operate or control more than 30 percent of the IGC of a grid and/or 25 percent of the national IGC.
ERC said the top company in terms of installed generating capacity and market share is Aboitiz Equity Ventures Inc. (AEV) leading with 5,745,221 kw equivalent to 22.47 percent for the national share. In Luzon, AEV has 4,633,821 kw (25.80 percent) with 470,900 kw (13.78 percent) in Visayas and 640,500 kw (15.29 percent) in Mindanao.
San Miguel Corp. followed with 5,057,360 kw at 19.78 percent in the national level; 4,576,800 kw (25.48 percent) in Luzon; 140,670 kw (4.12 percent) in Visayas; and 339,890 kw (8.12 percent) in Mindanao.
First Gen Corp. is in third place with 3,392,890 kw at 13.27 percent in the national level broken down to 2,510,500 kw (13.98 percent) in Luzon; 827,190 kw (24.20 percent) in Visayas; and 55,200 kw (1.32 percent) in Mindanao.
Ayala Corp. has 1,426,932 kw equivalent to 5.58 percent in the national level composed of 646,332 kw (3.60 percent) in Luzon; 175,400 kw (5.13 percent) in Visayas; and 605,200 kw (14.45 percent) in Mindanao.
The Manila Electric Co. followed with 1,380,920 kw at 5.40 percent for the national level wherein 578,700 kw (3.22 percent) is in Luzon and 802,220 kw (23.47 percent) in Visayas but no capacity in Mindanao.
