Manila Water eyes completion of EDSA Greenways steel pipe replacement project

Manila Water Co. Inc. is set to complete its Steel Pipe Replacement Greenways Project package 1 on EDSA Guadalupe southbound by the fourth quarter of the year.

The company said part of the P47-million pipeline project that started construction in July 2023 includes the replacement of an old 500-millimeter (mm) water mainline in the area to also prepare for the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) EDSA Greenways Project.

Manila Water said the old mainline pipes are being upgraded to 600-mm steel pipe which is a newer and sturdier steel pipe spanning 332.3 linear meters that will be connected to the existing 500-mm steel pipe in the same area.

The pipe replacement project will provide a better water infrastructure to minimize the risk of leakage and safeguard the construction and development of the EDSA Greenways Project which aims to improve the pedestrian walkway in transit stations located at Balintawak, Cubao, Guadalupe and Taft.

“Projects like the steel pipe replacement along EDSA Guadalupe are opportunities for us to improve water service for our customers while supporting government infrastructure projects such as the DOTr’s Greenways Project,” said Jeric Sevilla, Manila Water corporate communications affairs group director, in a statement.

The project also involves construction works, cover pavement breaking, open-cut excavation, pipelaying and valve insertion along St. Bernardino Street.

The company also assured that traffic management is being implemented to minimize disruption, as most of the construction activities are being conducted during the night.
