Jollibee in world’s top 15 most popular take-out resto

Only two Filipino fastfood chains made it to the Top 105 of the world’s most popular fast food franchises.

Only one made it to the top 15.

The list was posted by foody, a web app for fast food, delivery and take-away.

Majority of the food franchises specialize in Western cuisine, mostly sandwiches and burgers, including Jollibee, the only Filipino in the Top 15 at 13th. Chooks-to-Go is No. 63 in a list of 106.

All Top 15, except for Hunt Brothers Pizza, are familiar to local foodies.

Three in the top slots sell pizza (Pizza Hut, No. 6; Domino’s, No. 7; and Hunt Brothers Pizza, No. 9). Two (Starbucks and Dunkin’) are coffee outlets. Taco Bell is Mexican-inspired but sells American food. Just one (Orange Julius) specializes in fruit drinks while another (Baskin Robbins) in ice-cream.

Only Jollibee, with 5,900 locations worldwide, made it on the 15 largest global fast food restaurant chains by number of locations in 2020, a pandemic year at that.

No. 1 is Subway (with 38,695 locations), followed by McDonald’s (37,540), Starbucks (32,660), KFC (24,104) and Burger King (18,838).

Then there’s Pizza Hut, Domino’s, Dunkin’, Hunt Brothers Pizza, Taco Bell, Wendy’s and Baskin Robbins.

Jollibee is ahead of Hardee’s (a burger outlet) and Orange Julius in the Top 15.

Only Jollibee originated from the Philippines. The other largest Quick Service Restaurants in the world are American.
