ICTSI resumes ro-ro operation in Pakistan port after 20 years

International Container Terminal Services Inc. said its Pakistan operation is now servicing a roll-on-roll-off (ro-ro) line with the recent handling of Messina Line’s Jolly Quarzo, the first ro-ro vessel to call the terminal.

“This marks the resumption of ro-ro services at the Port of Karachi after 20 years,” the company said.

“As we welcome the multipurpose ro-ro vessel at PICT, we look to further enhance our customer-centric services and improve the reliability of our operations to strengthen maritime trade and uplift Pakistan’s economy,” said Khurram Aziz Khan, Pakistan International Container Terminal (PICT) chief executive officer. PICT is ICTSI’s unit in Pakistan.

“The resumption of ro-ro carrier calls at the Port of Karachi offers added value to exporters, provides additional opportunities to stakeholders of the country’s primary trade hub, and highlights PICT’s capability to expand its services and commercial reach,” Khan added.

Operating Berths 6 to 9 at the East Wharf of the Karachi Port, PICT is the preferred terminal for the Indian subcontinent trade routes. The common-use terminal offers excellent connections to Central Asia, Afghanistan, and the Western China hinterlands.
