ALMOST 900 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases have been reported daily over the past seven days, according to the Department of Health, which started issuing its weekly bulletin on the deadly virus yesterday.
Based on its new-look bulletin, the DOH said there was an average of 899 daily cases from March 1 to 7, “lower by 30 percent than cases reported from February 22 to 28.”
In all, there were 6,297 cases logged over the past seven days and 615 total deaths over the same period.
As of last Sunday, the DOH said there were 3,667,542 total cases in the country while the death toll stood at 57,023 for a case fatality rate of 1.55 percent.
The DOH also reported that there are currently 1,055 severe and critical cases in the country as of March 6, with 807 of them occupying ICU beds. The number of occupied ICU beds account for the 25.7 percent of the 3,138 total nationwide.
In a previous press briefing, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said they are revising the format of the case bulletin to shift the mindset of the public.
“We want to change the mindset of our people, wherein they are used to looking at the numbers… We want to shift focus to something the population should care more, which are the severe and critical cases and the healthcare system,” said Vergeire.
