Solid sets $323M expansion, taps new contractor

Cemex Holdings Philippines Inc. said unit Solid Cement Corp. is finally pushing through with its capacity expansion where it is set to spend $323 million.

The company said Solid Cement tapped Atlantic Gulf and Pacific Company of Manila, Inc. and Betonbau Philippines Inc. as the principal contractors for the project.

Solid Cement in December 2021 terminated the contract for the expansion citing delay in the implementation of construction works.

In 2018, Solid had signed agreements with CBMI Construction Co., Ltd of China for the procurement, construction and installation of the new production facility.

The expansion plan involves the construction and installation of the 1.5 million metric tons per year new integrated cement production line at Solid Cement’s cement plant in Antipolo City, increasing Cemex’s group capacity by 26 percent.

Cemex said the construction of the new line should be completed by March 2024 and the start of its operations could commence in April 2024.
