Private schools given 2 more years to submit permits to operate

PRIVATE schools with problems such as school site ownership can heave a temporary sign of relief after the Department of Education gave them two more years to comply with the requirements for issuance of permits to prevent the “undue displacement of learners.”

“In the exigency of service and to avoid undue displacement of learners, private schools falling under any one of the following criteria shall be granted a period of two years, from School Year 2023-2024 until SY 2024-2025 to comply with the requirements for the issuance of a permit to operate,” Vice President and DepEd Secretary Sara Duterte said in Department Order No. 026 dated October 10, 2023.

Covered under the order are private schools with “pending application for renewal, those whose application for government recognition have been denied but considered for permit renewal, those with new applications submitted within the prescribed period, and those with applications considered as new based on justifiable reasons or circumstances such as the lack of a permit in the previous school year.”
