WHILE there are still facets of their game that needs some fine-tuning, Far Eastern University-Diliman coach Allan Albano is convinced the Baby Tamaraws are fast proving their worth.
With Jedric Daa and VJ Pre showing the way, FEU-D overpowered University of the Philippines Integrated School 97-59 yesterday for its second straight win in the 85th UAAP juniors’ basketball tournament at the San Andres Sports Complex.
Daa notched 16 points while Pre turned in a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Baby Tams.
“At least nasa Final Four position pa rin kami kahit sabihin nating maaga pang sabihin.
Nasa maganda kaming position na 4-1,” Albano said.
“Kailangang mag-improve kami sa decision-making at iyong mindset, kasi minsan, nagre-relax ang mga bata,” he added.
The runaway victory served as a fitting follow-up to FEU-D’s 80-58 ripping of La Salle Zobel five days ago.
The Junior Fighting Maroons, coming off a 67-83 defeat to Adamson High School last Wednesday, fell to 1-4.
Earlier, University of the East pulled off a stunning 84-79 upset of Ateneo High School to crash the winner’s circle.
Ken Arcega’s driving layup off a Justine Gatchalian assist gave the Junior Warriors an 82-75 lead with 1:12 remaining.
Vhon Roldan led UE with 24 points, four boards, and two steals, while Gatchalian had nine points, five steals, and two assists.
The Junior Warriors atoned for a 60-88 setback at the hands of reigning two-time champion Nazareth School of National University five days ago and improved to 1-4.
