Spectrum tapped for Laguna solar rooftop devt

Manila Electric Co. subsidiary MSpectrum Inc. has partnered with the local unit of US-based Excelitas Technologies Corp. for a solar project in Laguna.

Under the agreement, MSpectrum will install a 116 kilowatt-peak solar facility at Excelitas Technologies Philippines Inc.’s manufacturing facility in Cabuyao.

Targeted for completion by December this year, the project will allow Excelitas to reduce its carbon footprint by an estimated 118.2 metric tons, translating to more than 5,430 trees planted and more than 470,000 kilometers reduced in vehicle travel per year.

US-based Excelitas Technologies Corp. is an industrial technology manufacturer focused on delivering innovative and market-driven photonic solution to meet the illumination, optical, optronic, sensing, detection and imaging needs of customers worldwide.

“Partnering with MSpectrum is a step in the right direction for Excelitas Technologies Philippines as we do our part in being a good corporate citizen by harnessing the benefits of renewable energy. We look forward to doing more in the future,” said Enrique Sonoy, Jr., Excelitas Technologies Philippines senior director of operations, in a statement.

MSpectrum said it is eyeing to secure as much as 30 megawatts worth of new projects this year.

Spectrum has commercial and industrial solar power installations in facilities of Philip Morris, Toyota, Ajinomoto, Vista Malls, Robinsons, Pilipinas Shell, S&R, Puregold, PLDT and Afficionado, among others.

MSpectrum’s solar rooftop portfolio of ongoing and operating capacity reached 70 megawatts as of June 2024. Of this, commercial and industrial clients account for 98 percent of this installed capacity mostly from Luzon.
