Zubiri to sue groups behind black propaganda

SEN. Juan Miguel Zubiri yesterday said he will file cyber libel charges against the people and groups behind an alleged online black propaganda aimed at discrediting him and tarnishing his integrity.

Zubiri was referring to a series of videos spreading in social media, the uploading of which, he stressed, was “perfectly timed” to coincide with his ouster as Senate President.

According to the senator’s office, the videos supposedly claims that Zubiri has a mansion in Forbes Park, in Makati City, and that he owns private airplanes and helicopters, insinuating that he acquired these through corruption.

Zubiri said the first set of videos came out two months ago when the first attempt to unseat him as Senate leader was launched but failed.

“When that failed, they produced a part two of the video which was released during the week of the second attempt. The timing is impeccable!” he said in a statement.

Zubiri’s office said that the former Senate president has identified the people behind the black propaganda videos and he is now talking with his legal team to gather sufficient evidence for the filing of airtight cases.

“It’s an obvious attempt to discredit my leadership and taint my name. And, they’re funneling huge amounts of money into this campaign — from production to promotion,” he added.

He said those behind the videos are making it appear that he is pocketing government money to buy mansions and jets which he said “are totally false.”

“I hope they are ready because I will be filing cases and will not stop until justice prevails,” Zubiri said.

Zubiri said he has a house in Dasmariñas Village also in Makati City which he bought in 2009 but has no property in Forbes Park.

He likewise said he does not own any aircraft, adding that he borrows private jets to attend to functions on a tight schedule.
