BOC exceeds Nov target by 13%

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has exceeded its collection target for the month of November by 13.39 percent.

The BOC said in a statement yesterday that, in spite of the restrictions brought about by the pandemic and its effects to the overall trade environment, the agency raked in P58.79 billion for the month, surpassing the target of P51.85 billion.

The preliminary collection figure also exceeded the November 2020 collection of P43.7 billion by 34.52 percent.

The BOC said 12 out of the 17 collection districts exceeded their target for the month.

These are the ports of San Fernando, Manila International Container Port, Ninoy Aquino Internal Airport, Batangas, Legaspi, Iloilo, Tacloban, Zamboanga, Davao, Subic, Clark and Limay.

The BOC has collected P584.16 billion since January 2021 or 94.7 percent of the total 2021 collection target of P616.75 billion.

“The observed recovery in collection performance is attributed to several factors, including the improvement in volume of importation, improved valuation, not to mention, the intensified collection efforts of all 17 ports, the gradual improvement of economy, reopening of businesses and borders, and the government’s effort in ensuring unhampered movement of goods domestically and internationally considering the crisis,” the BOC said. – Angela Celis
